Privacy policy

Overview

Federal Energy Strategy ("FES," "we," "us") provides federal energy contracting research and advisory services. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we handle it, and what choices you have.

We collect as little as possible. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly. When you contact us through the contact form or by email, we collect what you enter: typically your name, email address, company name, and details about your business such as NAICS codes or target agencies. We collect this so we can respond to you and provide what you asked for.

Purchase information. When you buy a product from us, our payment processor collects your payment details and billing information. We receive your name, email address, and a record of the transaction. We never receive, see, or store your full payment card number or financial account credentials.

Email correspondence. If you email us, we retain that correspondence in our business email system so we can respond and maintain a record of the conversation.

Server logs. Our website host records standard technical information when you visit, including IP address, browser type, and pages requested. This is generated automatically by the hosting infrastructure and is used for security and reliability, not for tracking individuals across sites.

Website analytics. We use Plausible Analytics to understand how the site is used. It is cookieless and does not collect personal information. It records page views and, on the Playbook page, interactions with the preview and the purchase buttons, all in aggregate. It does not identify you and does not follow you across websites.

Information we do not collect

We want to be specific about this, because many privacy policies are vague where they should be plain:

  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
  • We do not use third-party analytics that profile visitors across websites.
  • We do not operate advertising pixels or social media trackers.
  • We do not buy personal information from data brokers.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to anyone.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Respond to your inquiries and provide the services you request
  • Deliver products you purchase, including any update editions included with your purchase
  • Send you transactional messages about your purchase, such as receipts, your emailed copy of the product, and update notifications
  • Maintain business records, including for accounting and tax purposes
  • Protect the security and integrity of our systems

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not use it for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Service providers

We use a small number of third-party services to operate our business. Each receives only the information it needs to perform its function:

ProviderPurposeWhat it handles
RenderWebsite hostingServer logs, site delivery
StripePayment processingPayment and billing information
Google WorkspaceBusiness emailCorrespondence you send us
FormspreeContact form deliveryMessages you send through the contact form
Plausible AnalyticsWebsite analyticsAggregate page views and Playbook page interactions, without cookies or personal information

These providers are bound by their own privacy commitments and process information on our behalf. We do not authorize them to use your information for their own marketing purposes.

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as we need it:

  • Inquiries and correspondence: retained while the conversation is active and for a reasonable period afterward for business continuity.
  • Purchase records: retained as long as required for tax, accounting, and legal obligations, and for the duration of any update entitlement attached to your purchase.
  • Server logs: retained per our hosting provider's standard retention period.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or retain it only in a form that no longer identifies you.

How we protect information

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold:

  • Our website is served over HTTPS.
  • Payment processing is handled entirely by our payment processor. Card data never touches our systems.
  • Access to customer information is limited to those who need it to operate the business.
  • Credentials and access keys are never stored in our website code.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You may:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of information that is inaccurate.
  • Request deletion of your information, subject to records we are required to retain for legal, tax, or accounting purposes.
  • Opt out of non-transactional email at any time. Note that we may still send you messages necessary to fulfill a purchase, such as your emailed copy of the product and included update editions.

To make any of these requests, use the contact form linked below. We will respond within a reasonable period.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. We honor these requests regardless of whether a specific law requires us to.

Children

Our services are intended for businesses and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If the change is significant, such as adding a new category of data collection, we will make that clear rather than relying on the date alone.
